Fight Oxidative Stress, Support Detoxification

GDtoxSel was formulated with the idea of offering a solid companion to ImmunoPCTN and addressing all the pathways nutritionally necessary to help men live well after a diagnosis of prostate cancer. In my clinical experience, there are four biological pathways to address when dealing with prostate cancer: lower chronic inflammation, boost immune system function, reduce oxidative stress, and support the detoxification process.

Oxidative Stress (“OS”) occurs when the number of free radicals in the body exceeds its pool of available antioxidants to neutralize them. OS is involved in over 100 diseases, as their cause or consequence includes massive cell damage that can result in cellular mutations, tissue breakdown, and weakened immunity. OS results from an increased generation of free radicals or reduced physiological activity of antioxidant defenses against free radicals. The degree of OS experienced by the cell will be a function of the free radical activity balanced with the available antioxidants ready to scavenge them.

What are free radicals?

They are volatile molecules that interact quickly and aggressively with other molecules in our bodies to create abnormal cells. Free radicals are not always a problem as they are made from the normal metabolism of food and are a byproduct of the detoxification process. Although free radicals have valuable bodily functions under controlled conditions, they are extremely unstable molecules that can damage cells if left uncontrolled. Also, the production of free radicals increases with age – and many diseases, including prostate cancer, come with aging. Free radicals damage cells in various ways, penetrating the DNA and damaging its "blueprint" so the cell will reproduce uncontrollably. The unfortunate result of too many free radicals in our body is accelerated aging and the development of many diseases, including cancer and heart disease.

What are Antioxidants, and how do they work?

An antioxidant is a molecule that helps protect cells from the damaging effects of free radicals. Antioxidants scavenge free radicals and stabilize the unstable free radicals by giving them the electrons they need to "behave" and act as normal cells. An ideal antioxidant should be readily absorbed by the body and should prevent or quench free radical formation or cling and dispose of metals to keep a prooxidant/antioxidant balance. Unfortunately, antioxidants are usually consumed or used up in this process—they sacrifice themselves to keep a cell healthy. That's why a constant amount of antioxidants consumed from food and nutraceutical supplements is essential. The most notable antioxidants that offer protection are vitamins A, E, and C, glutathione, bioflavonoids, selenium, zinc, and various phytochemicals from herbs and foods. Green tea, for example, is rich in polyphenols—powerful antioxidants that help fight cancer.

Where do free radicals come from?

Free radicals develop from the normal metabolism of food and during the detoxification of drugs, both pharmaceutical and recreational, preservatives in processed foods, alcohol, cigarette smoke, chlorinated drinking water, pesticides, radiation, cleaning fluids, heavy metals such as cadmium and lead, and assorted chemicals such as solvent traces found in processed foods and other environmental toxins.

Three Ways to Avoid Oxidative Stress from Free Radicals in the body?

The good news is we can avoid excess OS from free radicals in three ways:

● Reduce exposure to as many environmental toxins as possible. No matter how careful we are, we cannot avoid endogenous and exogenous free radical formation due to normal metabolism and exposure to environmental oxidants. It is impossible to avoid all of them, but you can abstain from cigarette smoking, lower your alcohol intake, and eat organic food free of pesticides, for example.

● Eat foods recommended on the XY Wellness Diet, which are filled with antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables. For example, all berries, green leafy vegetables, and green tea contain plenty of balanced antioxidants.

● Take the right combination of nutraceutical supplements balanced in key antioxidants. Antioxidants work best in combination. Although there is value in supplementing with extra amounts of one or two antioxidants, better results are always obtained when a "cocktail" is administered that include vitamin D, C, and E, selenium, zinc, and alpha lipoic acid. Antioxidants tend to have a more synergistic effect on the body when consuming a variety of kinds compared to single vitamins.

How GDtoxSel Protects You from Progression of Aberrant Cells?

GDtoxsel was carefully formulated to balance nutrients to combat oxidative stress and promote detoxification. This formula works best when taken with ImmunoPCTN as it contains a balanced amount of antioxidants, that includes vitamin C, vitamin E (high gamma mixed tocopherol), zinc, selenium (from selenized yeast), and alpha lipoic acid to protect cellular DNA and the mitochondria from oxidative damage, plus milk thistle, Broccoli seed extract (1% glucoraphanin), reduced l-glutathione and Schisandra Chinensis fruit extract (4:1) to support liver health and key botanicals to support detoxification of unwanted environmental toxins.

Closing Thoughts

Some oxidative stress is essential for normal bodily function. Still, due to environmental exposure to unwanted chemicals, a suboptimal diet, and normal metabolism, there is often an imbalance between antioxidants and prooxidants. Eating food rich in antioxidants is the best approach to combat OS. However, even our best diets may not be good enough as the soil where much of our produce comes from is nutritionally depleted, making targeted dietary supplements essential. By keeping your immune system strong, lowering inflammation, swiftly ridding the body of environmental toxins through a healthy detoxification system, and combating free radicals, you can create a microenvironment hostile to prostate cancer. ImmunoPCTN and GDtoxSel are the one-two punch to hit all those areas. As always, let us know how we can help.

Much Love!
